Eric Mathijsen: From apprentice to master
It’s a beautiful story. Eric Mathijsen worked as a young artist for Jaap Egmond (1913-1997). Jaap Egmond (as well as contemporary Jan Schoonhoven) is known for his papier-mâché reliefs. But Jaap Egmond also made sculptures from steel and Mathijsen cut and welded the steel for his master. Eric Mathijsen has now also started making special reliefs from papier-mâché. It will come as no surprise that the basis for his works consists of cut cans!
WonderWood will show these special papier-mâché works in the gallery and during PAN 2021.
