![]() In
the 1950's........ George
Nelson developed in
his New York office a series of individual and striking furniture,
some of which has long since become Classics, like the Coconut Chair
and the Marshmellow Sofa.
In 1952........
George Nelson designed a chair from moulded plywood, initially called
the “Laminated Chair”. It
was the bold, elegant lines of the back and arm rests that gave the
chair its nickname, the “Pretzel Chair”. Like the rests
and the mountings, the four legs of the chair which cross beneath the
seat are also made of laminated wood. They taper downwards and hence
contribute to the slender appearance of the chair. In 2008........ VITRA is celebrating the 100th birthday of George Nelson (1908-1986) with a special worldwide edition of strictly only 1000 numbered pieces of the Pretzel Chair in rosewood veneer. ![]() No wonder that WonderWood is the first gallery in the world where the Pretzelchair is already on display.
